Ruben Alvarez is a Chicago based teacher and percussionist. He plays with
Chuchito Valdés and his Afro-Cuban Jazz Ensemble and teaches at Columbia
College and Northwestern and Roosevelt Universities.
In this session, Ruben shares a few simple exercises to practice on the
conga. This online video lesson will help you improve your groove while building
solo skills for the palm, open and slap techniques. The exercises utilize
one drum and are based on six-beat patterns that are played with alternating
strokes using the strong hand.
