Walfredo “Wally” Reyes, Jr., is well known within the music industry for his versatility as a player. Whether he’s performing on drumset, percussion, or both, Wally brings unparalleled passion, artistry, and technical skill to every musical situation. These qualities have made him a first-call drummer/percussionist for such world-renowned artists as Steve Winwood, Cristina Aguilera, Carlos Santana, Gloria Estefan, Celia Cruz, and Larry Carlton, among dozens of others.

Wally is also a talented and tireless educator who frequently presents clinics and teaches at drumming camps around the world. This part of his drumming persona recently earned him a Lifetime Achievement Award from the KoSA International Percussion Workshops. The award—presented to Wally at the 2009 KoSA Summer Workshop in Montreal, Quebec, Canada—cited Wally’s “enormous contribution to world rhythms on drumset performance and education.” As a frequent instructor at the KoSA workshops (including this year), Wally was pleased to receive the award from KoSA directors Aldo Mazza and Jolan Kovacs-Mazza.

The KoSA workshops provide personalized, hands-on training to participants ranging in age from nine to sixty-plus, offered by a faculty of top musical artists and educators like Walfredo Reyes, Jr. The 2009 summer program was the fourteenth edition, and was held at the new KoSA Centre des Arts in Montreal from July 30th through August 2nd. In addition to classes, participants enjoyed concert performances by Wally and other faculty members each evening. Latin Percussion is a long-time supporter of the KoSA program.
